Hello EPL Team - just a moment to let you know the office team celebrated YOU today as we paused to give God praise for the Spring 2023 season - yesterday marked the final day of the spring season! It was busy, it was blessed, and it was made possible by our GREAT GOD and the incredible ACTS TEAM!
From my chair, I get the honor of working with the office team and the road team. I stand in awe of how God continues to provide such an amazing team of people who love Him, love people, love history, and are just a bit crazy!! (I mean who really LOVES to live out of a suitcase and go for a walk in the rain with a 'few' friends?!)
We are SO grateful for each incredible person in the ACTS family. Thank you. Thank you for everything each of you did this spring to impact lives for Christ and for eternity. We will never know this side of Heaven the ripple effect of the hours of love and labor that made each of these Programs possible. But God does. What a day THAT will be when we hear those stories!
The fall season and Spring 2024 season are coming together even as I write, so, Lord willing, LOTS more to come, but for now, we celebrate the mighty works of God through the amazing ACTS TEAM this spring! To God be the glory. Onward!

How Arlington National Cemetery is prepping for a busy Memorial Day weekend Dick Uliano | duliano@wtop.com May 24, 2023, 4:46 AM Preparations are well underway at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia for the busy Memorial Day weekend ahead. It’s Flags-In on Thursday afternoon. The public is invited to watch soldiers of the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment carry out a more than 60 year tradition, placing American flags at each headstone. CEO of Historic Tours of America Chris Belland and President and CEO of Suburban Propane Michael Stivala placed a wreath at the grave site of President John F. Kennedy on Tuesday. Suburban Propane has an unusual connection to the 60-year history of the Kennedy grave site at Arlington. “In 1963, Jackie Kennedy, as a last minute decision, wanted to have the eternal flame at the grave site and it was about a day or so before the burial ceremony,” Stivala said. In the dark days following the presidential assassination in Dallas, with little time before the state funeral, the White House contacted Suburban’s facility in Rockville, Maryland. “We were able to get the piping done and get the propane service up and running in time for the ceremony,” said Stivala. Weekend events The weekend activities will include hundreds of motorcyclists laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on Saturday. Members of the public who have preregistered will be able to attend a sunrise photo shoot early Sunday morning. The cemetery will feature the second Flowers of Remembrance Day, in which members of the public will each be given a flower to place at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. That event goes from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Memorial Day On Monday, Memorial Day, there’ll be an Armed Forces Full Honors wreath-laying at the Kennedy grave site at 8:30 a.m. in honor of Kennedy’s 100th birthday. The Full Honors National Memorial Day Observance ceremony will take place at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at 11 a.m. The Memorial Day Program will follow in Arlington’s Memorial Amphitheater.

May 11, 2023 Update: Prayers needed this evening for Olivia, Jeni, Jason, and the rest of Kristi's family. Original Post: We’ve received what feels like the final report. Olivia’s umbilical cord has started working correctly again which is good. Her body has not changed in three weeks which is good. But Jeni’s body is what is keeping her alive. her heart is too damaged for anything to help. The clinic went over the scenario of a transplant and it would be horrible. They feel Olivia only has a 40% of being able to survive on a machine until a heart would be available and then there would be the chance that she would not even qualify at that point. It is the third time they’ve been told what the heart transplant will be like and have walked away, knowing they would never do that to their daughter. They were given a session with a social worker for end-of-life care, the clinic feels it is highly unlikely that she would live, but a few minutes after birth, and maybe not long enough for the sisters to meet her. Jeni And Jason have to make decisions this week because the clinic has them slated for a C-section on May 15th. Jeni and Jason have simply stated that either it’s a miracle of healing or passing away for Olivia. We will continue to pray with Faith.

3 Things: 1 - Jay is on tour this week, Sabrina is EPL Point Of Contact while he is out. Jay will be back on deck Saturday. (Please do not call him/text him this week so he can fully serve his group!) 2 - You are being prayed for daily. As May begins and we enter the last six +/- weeks of the spring season, be encouraged even though you may be tired and a bit weary. God is using each of you for His glory and much good kingdom work is being done. The enemy of our souls doesn’t like it and will continue to fight us. An encouragement to each of us to keep our armor on and ready - spend time getting personal nurturing from The Word. (Link to devotional that was an encouragement to me. Don’t Grow Weary Doing Good) Galatians 6:9 “Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” 3 - You are GREATLY appreciated!! Thank you for all the hard work, effort, and energy! Thank you for supporting and encouraging one another. We love hearing about those ‘God moments’ when you ‘happen’ to be in the same place with other EPLs sharing stories, laughs, and support. You are all part of the incredible Team ACTS! We are so blessed!

We are aware of potential demonstrations around the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) on Saturday April 1. No group is scheduled to be near Capitol Hill. Most groups are not in DC proper Saturday. The few that are need to stick to your scheduled itinerary - unless, of course, there becomes reason to avoid a particular area (Smithsonians, Ford's, Archives, MOTB). We are monitoring the news, and monitoring where you are - so please let us know if you change your schedule - or if you notice activity to be avoided. As always, the safety of our groups is our top priority. Your first priority is to be aware and fully engaged with the direction and whereabouts of your group. Side-note - A request to READ AND ACKNOWLEDGE in the title of a post means to 'like' the post at minimum. This is not a suggestion - it is REQUIRED. This is our only way to know you read the post and are aware of the information being communicated. If you saw it - like it - otherwise we have to assume you didn't see it and will need to track you down - nicely, of course. When you are on tour, your SPACES notifications must be on. If you're having issues with SPACES, we need to know. Thank you!!

Great question from the road today! With all the changes over the past couple years it's hard to keep track, but we're back to no tickets to enter the building - tickets required for Permanent Exhibition only. If you have a 'Daniel's Story' visit, you do not have/need tickets; therefore, no reservation for a 'timed entry' either. From USHMM website 3.14.23: 'To help reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19, the Museum is reopening on a limited basis with new visitor requirements and safety measures in place. Free timed-entry tickets are required to enter the Museum’s Permanent Exhibition only. Tickets are not required for Daniel's Story and other special exhibitions.'

The National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC requires free timed-entry tickets. We have secured what we could for the spring. If we were able to get tickets for your group, it will be noted on your itinerary. Entry times are hourly from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. You may enter within the hour of your entry time. (i.e. 11A ticket / entry 11:00-11:59A) (Also states you cannot be more than 15 minutes early.) Same-day passes are released through Etix beginning at 8:30 am each day for morning time slots, AND at 12:30 pm for afternoon time slots. You can only get 6 passes at a time. If you have a group that wants to try to secure same day tickets, you may use the link below to attempt to secure 6 at a time. (ACTS is not allowed to secure these same-day tickets that are reserved for individuals, but you are able to use the link – or share it. However, be aware that it could cause frustration as some people will get in and most won’t.) https://www.etix.com/ticket/e/1029945/timed-entry-washington-the-smithsonian-national-air-and-space-museum-general-public

Jessica Kronzer | jkronzer@wtop.com February 20, 2023, 2:02 PM A dark, vaulted enormous space on the National Mall unseen by the public is now under construction with a plan to create an immersive visitor experience underneath the Lincoln Memorial. It’s part of a $69 million makeover in store, funded through the National Park Foundation and philanthropist David Rubenstein, to bring a bookstore and museum to the space underneath the famed Lincoln statue. The project is expected to begin in March and wrap up in 2026, in time for the 250th anniversary of the nation’s independence, according to a news release from the National Park Service. The NPS on Monday morning announced that it awarded a contract for the improvements. Where will I see the biggest changes? Some of the biggest changes to the monument won’t be inside the chamber most visitors are familiar with that hosts a statue of the nation’s 16th president. Instead, visitors will see a transformation below. The 15,000 square foot museum will be inside a cavernous area called the undercroft, now marked by concrete walls and dirt floors. When the project is completed, the undercroft will be lined by floor-to-ceiling glass walls and images of historic events will be projected onto the foundations. “So the beauty of this is we’re going to be creating a 15,000 square foot glass visitor area, so visitors will be suspended in the undercroft and can look out into the space, but yet also learn about some of the stories behind the memorial itself,” said Superintendent of the National Mall and Memorial Parks Jeff Reinbold, during a tour with reporters of the space under the monument. Some of those stories are told through the graffiti discovered at the base of the columns, which includes figures scribbled by the engineers as well as cartoons that were likely drawn by the construction workers when the memorial was being constructed. Graffiti scrawled in the undercroft of the Lincoln Memorial believed to have been scribbled by engineers and construction workers when the memorial was being constructed. (Courtesy National Park Service) “This was built during World War I — coming out of the shadow of the Civil War,” Reinbold said. “It’s a memorial to unification right as the world is kind of pulling apart. And so all of those motivations behind the symbolism in the memorial, we’ll get a chance to talk about, but most excitingly is we’re gonna have an audiovisual program that we’ll talk about what happened after it was dedicated. So you get the Marian Anderson concert, you get the March on Washington, you get all of the protests that have made this America’s premier civic space.” Though the site is dedicated to Abraham Lincoln, the museum will explain how the memorial become associated with historical figures such as Marian Anderson and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who NPS says “shaped the history of the memorial.” Inside the ‘undercroft’ The dark, cold undercroft is dimly lit by construction lights, which cast expansive shadows up and across the space. “The first time people see this, it’s unexpected that you have this enormous undercroft,” said Mike Litterst with the National Park Service. “So the columns that you’re looking at are 40 to 50 feet in height, they go down into the floor and other 40 to 50 feet until they hit bedrock. So all told, it’s about 90 feet worth of columns. And this was done specifically to create the illusion that the Lincoln Memorial sits up on a hill,” Litterst said. The money for the museum comes from a public-private partnership project that was announced back in 2016. The immersive museum, announced by the National Park Foundation years ago, has gone up in cost. “We thought the total budget might be $35 or $40 million,” said Will Shafroff with the National Park Foundation. “Because of a change in security screening protocols, the price has gone up. Then you have COVID supply chain construction costs, and so we’ve had to really kind of, it’s taken us longer to get here. But fortunately … once we kind of got through this phase, the Park Service and the National Park Foundation each contributed an additional $25 million to the project, so that we’re at a total budget of $69 million now. And now it’s ready to go.” Any other improvements? Besides the museum, NPS said the project includes adding new restrooms, refurbishing the elevator to the chamber level of the memorial and expanding the bookstore. “Improving the visitor experience at the Lincoln Memorial is vitally important to connecting Americans to the rich history of our country, the triumphs, the failures, and the lessons learned,” said David M. Rubenstein, who donated $18.5 million to the project back in 2016. Can I visit the monument during the construction? The public will still be able to access the memorial, including the chamber with the towering statue of Lincoln, during the construction. But the bathrooms and the elevator will close this spring. Temporary restrooms and a handicapped accessible lift will be available during the renovations. Hello! EPL Spring 2023 Schedules are now complete – barring any mistakes on our end (or something someone forgot to tell us!). Thank you for your patience and grace. Please look them over as soon as you can. Concerns - Let us know right away if you see any issues – on our end or yours. Email jay@acts-tours.com and sabrina@acts-tours.com if you have any issues or concerns about your schedule. Travel Deviation - If you plan to deviate from your standard home airport before or after a program, we will need to be notified by end of day Tuesday, February 14. Any changes you need to make after that date may incur a change fee that will be the responsibility of the EPL - so please look ahead now. Email your travel deviation requests to jay@acts-tours.com. (Note: if your travel deviation plan is more costly than your standard home airport would be, you will need to cover the difference. Sorry – no Hawaii side trips! 😊) Overlap dates – if you see a date overlap (i.e. one trip ends on the same date another begins), it is likely the second group is coming in on a red-eye flight – meaning they depart their home airport on the first day/date but do not arrive until the following morning. Look for the ‘+’ sign in the description of the second program to verify. Thank you again. We are SO grateful for each incredible EPL on the ACTS Team! Keeping you all in our prayers. Onward!
