The Creation Museum and The Ark Encounter

Your faith will be encouraged as you visit these two Christian faith-based sites.  Experience biblical based history at the life-size Noah’s Ark! Learn about Noah, his family, the construction, the destruction of the earth, and God's plan to preserve His Creation.  Also enjoy the live animal zoo, zip lines, and other on-site attractions.  Down the road visit the Creation Museum and explores biblical creation science with stunning exhibits, dinosaur bones, fossils, a botanical garden, a planetarium, zoo, zip line course, and more.

  • Climate

    Trips doing The Pilgrimage can experience climate that varies greatly.  Through most of the region of Kentucky and Ohio the winters can be cold and bitter with temperatures not much above freezing to mild with highs in the 60's.  Snow is also a likely possibility.  In the summer, the temperatures throughout this region are usually hot and the air humid. 
     
    The best time to visit is in the spring and fall when the air is clear and the temperatures and precipitation mild.  Short heavy periods of rain are to be expected in the spring months.
  • Geography

    North Central Kentucky, where the Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter are located, is along the Ohio River in the Bluegrass Region.  It is characterized by rolling meadows in the central portion.

    • Usually one night of the trip has a stop at Graeter’s Ice Cream - a well-known ice cream purveyor in the Cincinnati area.
    • Or there is Uncle Leroy’s Fudge at both museums -  prepared in a traditional copper kettle. Other options would include kettle corn and Uncle Leroy’s famous brittle candy.

    Both locations have a Zoo.  Here you can meet different animals such as camels, emus, kangaroos, sloths, porcupines and more.

  • Surprises

    • The Noah's Ark at The Ark Encounter was built according to the dimensions given in the Bible. It is 510 feet long, 85 feet wide, and 51 feet high.  It is the largest timber frame structure in the world, built from standing dead timber, in part by skilled Amish craftsmen.
    • Patrick Marsh, chief designer of the Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter, also worked on the 1984 Olympic Games, the King Kong and Jaws attractions at the Universal Studios theme park in Florida, and more.
    • The Creation Museum was gifted a world-class dinosaur skeleton. An impressive allosaur - nicknamed Ebenenezer - is believed to have one of the four best-preserved Allosaurus skulls ever discovered.
