CLIMATE

Texas's climate varies widely.  Due to the huge expanse of Texas's landmass, several regions with distinctly different climates can be found: The Northern Plains, Trans-Pecos Region, Texas Hill Country, Piney Woods, and South Texas. Basically, the eastern half of Texas is humid and subtropical, the western half is semi-arid.

GEOGRAPHY

Texas is a state of remarkable geographic and cultural variety. From the rolling landscapes of the Hill Country to the urban centers of Austin and San Antonio, the region offers students opportunities to explore history, government, science, culture, and outdoor adventure.

Austin sits along the Colorado River in Central Texas, while San Antonio's history is closely connected to the San Antonio River and the missions that helped shape the city.

WATCH

  • A short introduction video from the History Channel on the Battle of the Alamo and the Texas Revolution.

  • For groups visiting the Capitol, consider a brief introduction to the structure and function of state government.
